  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 egg white
  • 1/4 tsp white pepper
  • 1/3 cup water

Sesame Sauce and Garnish

  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1.5 tbsp ketchup
  • 1.5 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 tsp sesame seeds
  • 1 green onion, chopped

Cooking Oil

  • Frying oil (such as vegetable or peanut oil) for deep frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare Chicken & Batter: Cut the chicken into uniform, bite-sized pieces. In a medium bowl, whisk together the cornstarch, flour, soy sauce, egg white, white pepper, and water until a smooth batter forms. Toss the chicken pieces in this batter to evenly coat each piece.
  2. Prepare Sesame Sauce: In a small bowl, combine honey, soy sauce, ketchup, and sesame oil. Whisk the ingredients together thoroughly and set aside the sauce.
  3. Fry the Chicken: Heat frying oil in a large, heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer to 350-375°F (175-190°C). Carefully drop the battered chicken pieces into the hot oil in small batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for 4-6 minutes until golden brown, crispy, and cooked through. Remove the chicken with a slotted spoon and place on a wire rack over paper towels to drain excess oil.
  4. Combine & Serve: Transfer the fried chicken to a large mixing bowl. Pour the prepared sesame sauce over the chicken and toss gently but quickly to coat all pieces evenly. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onion. Serve immediately, ideally alongside steamed rice or your favorite side dish.
