  • Yield: 1 serving 1x

Description

Egg in a Hole is a classic and simple breakfast dish where a slice of whole wheat bread is toasted with a perfectly cooked egg nestled in its center. This recipe combines buttery toasted bread with a sunny, seasoned egg, making it a comforting and easy-to-make morning favorite.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon Salted Butter
  • 1 slice Whole Wheat Bread
  • 1 Egg
  • Salt, to taste
  • Ground Black Pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat the butter: Melt 1 tablespoon of salted butter in a small skillet over medium heat until fully melted and slightly bubbling.
  2. Prepare the bread: Use a round cookie cutter or biscuit cutter to cut a hole out of the center of one slice of whole wheat bread.
  3. Cook the egg in the bread: Place the bread slice into the hot skillet, along with the cut-out bread circle to the side. Carefully crack one egg directly into the hole in the bread.
  4. Season and cook first side: Sprinkle a tiny bit of salt and ground black pepper on the egg. Let it cook for about two minutes until the egg starts to set.
  5. Flip and finish cooking: Carefully slide a spatula under the bread and flip it to cook the other side. Sprinkle a bit more pepper on top. Also, flip the cut-out bread circle and grill it on the other side.
  6. Serve and enjoy: Transfer the bread and egg onto a plate, using the toasted center bread piece to soak up the warm, delicious yolk.

Notes

  • Use a non-stick skillet for easier flipping and cleanup.
  • Adjust cooking time to preference for yolk doneness.
  • Try using different breads like sourdough or white bread for variation.
  • Add herbs like chives or parsley for extra flavor.
  • Serve with your favorite breakfast sides for a complete meal.
