  • Author: Luna
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 5 Scotch Eggs 1x

Description

Herb Infused Scotch Eggs are a delicious twist on the classic recipe, featuring hard-boiled eggs wrapped in a flavorful mixture of ground beef, fresh herbs, and spices. Coated in flour, egg, and breadcrumbs, then deep-fried to golden perfection, these Scotch eggs are perfect for a hearty snack or a savory appetizer served on a fresh bed of lettuce.

Ingredients

Scale

Eggs

  • 5 Free Range Eggs

Meat Mixture

  • 1 pound Ground Beef
  • 1/2 tablespoon Fresh Chives, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh Cilantro, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Black Pepper
  • 1/2 tablespoon Onion Powder

Coating

  • 1 cup All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 cup Breadcrumbs

Serving

  • 1 pound Lettuce, washed and dried

Instructions

  1. Boil the eggs: Place 4 of the free-range eggs in boiling water and cook for 6-8 minutes until hard-boiled. Immediately transfer the eggs to ice water and let them cool for 5 minutes. Peel the eggs carefully and set aside.
  2. Prepare the meat mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with fresh chives, chopped fresh cilantro, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and ground black pepper. Mix thoroughly to ensure all ingredients are well incorporated.
  3. Scramble the egg: Beat the remaining 1 free-range egg in a small bowl and set aside; this will be used for coating.
  4. Assemble the Scotch eggs: Lightly coat each peeled hard-boiled egg with all-purpose flour. Then take a handful of the meat mixture and flatten it in your palm. Place the floured egg in the center and carefully mold the meat mixture around the egg, forming a tight, round ball.
  5. Coat the meat-wrapped eggs: Roll the meat ball first in flour, then dip it into the beaten egg mixture, and finally coat it evenly with breadcrumbs to create a crispy exterior.
  6. Deep fry the Scotch eggs: Heat oil to 360°F (182°C) in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot. Carefully lower the coated Scotch eggs into the hot oil and deep fry for about 10 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
  7. Serve: Remove the Scotch eggs with a slotted spoon and drain excess oil on paper towels. Serve hot on a bed of fresh lettuce.

Notes

  • Ensure the oil temperature is maintained at 360°F for even cooking and crispy coating.
  • You can substitute ground beef with ground pork or a mixture of both for a different flavor.
  • Use fresh herbs for the best taste and aroma.
  • Serve with mustard or your favorite dipping sauce for extra flavor.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated and enjoyed cold or reheated in an oven or air fryer for crispiness.
