Description

Delight in these warm and comforting Maple Glazed Baked Apples, filled with a sweet and spiced mixture of raisins, brown sugar, and walnuts, then drizzled with pure maple syrup and baked to tender perfection. This simple yet elegant dessert is perfect for cozy evenings or holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Apples and Filling

  • 4 Apples
  • 1/2 cup Raisins
  • 1/2 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/3 cup Walnuts, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon

Glaze and Baking

  • 1/2 cup Apple Juice
  • 1/4 cup Pure Maple Syrup
  • 2 tablespoons Butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Heat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the apples.
  2. Prepare Apples: Core the 4 apples carefully, keeping the bottoms intact so the filling doesn’t leak out. Peel the top half of each apple to create a nice texture contrast. Place them standing upright in an 8-inch square baking pan.
  3. Make Filling Mixture: In a bowl, combine 1/2 cup raisins, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/3 cup chopped walnuts, and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon. Stir well to evenly mix all ingredients.
  4. Stuff Apples: Spoon the filling mixture into the hollowed apples, mounding it slightly over the top. Allow any excess filling to fall into the bottom of the pan.
  5. Add Liquids and Glaze: Pour 1/2 cup apple juice into the bottom of the pan around the apples. In a small bowl, mix 1/4 cup pure maple syrup with 2 tablespoons melted butter, then spoon this glaze over the tops of the filled apples.
  6. Cover and Bake: Cover the pan tightly with aluminum foil to retain moisture. Bake the apples for 45 to 55 minutes, or until they are tender when pierced with a fork.
  7. Serve: Remove from oven and let cool slightly. Serve the baked apples warm or at room temperature for a comforting dessert experience.

Notes

  • For a nuttier texture, you may substitute walnuts with pecans or almonds.
  • If you prefer a vegan version, replace butter with coconut oil.
  • Use tart apples such as Granny Smith for a balanced sweet-tart flavor.
  • The baking time may vary slightly depending on the apple size and variety.
  • Covering the pan with foil helps prevent the apples from drying out.
