Description

This Quick & Easy Tuna Tartare is a fresh, flavorful dish combining sushi-grade Ahi tuna with creamy avocado, zesty lime, and a spicy chili onion crunch. Perfect as an appetizer or light meal, it comes together in minutes without any cooking, highlighting the vibrant textures and bold Asian-inspired flavors.

Ingredients

Scale

Tuna and Avocado

  • ½ pound Ahi Tuna (sushi grade, cut into ½-inch pieces)
  • 1 large avocado (diced into ½-inch pieces)

Sauce

  • 1 teaspoon ginger paste (or grated fresh ginger)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon chili onion crunch (or use sriracha)
  • 3 tablespoons scallions (finely chopped, plus more for serving)
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds (mixed white and black, divided)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Tuna and Avocado: Pat the tuna fillet dry using a paper towel to remove excess moisture. Cut the tuna into ½-inch cubes and place them in a mixing bowl. Dice the avocado into ½-inch pieces and add to the same bowl.
  2. Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, combine the ginger paste, soy sauce, lime juice, sesame oil, chili onion crunch, finely chopped scallions, and half of the sesame seeds. Whisk well until all ingredients are thoroughly blended.
  3. Mix Tuna with Sauce: Pour the prepared sauce over the tuna and avocado mixture. Gently fold the ingredients together to evenly coat without mashing the avocado or breaking up the tuna pieces.
  4. Plate the Tartare: Transfer the mixture to a smaller bowl to help shape it tightly. Place a larger serving plate on top of the bowl and carefully invert both together. Tap the bowl to release the tuna tartare onto the plate.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle the remaining sesame seeds and additional scallions on top for extra crunch and freshness. Serve immediately with seaweed or crispy wonton chips as accompaniments.

Notes

  • Ensure to use sushi-grade tuna for safety and best flavor when serving raw fish dishes.
  • Adjust the amount of chili onion crunch or sriracha depending on your preferred spice level.
  • Serve immediately after preparation to maintain texture and freshness.
  • Can be paired with toasted bread or crackers if seaweed or wonton chips are unavailable.
