Ingredients
Scale
Cheese
- 1 8-ounce wheel Camembert cheese (the cheese that comes in the wooden box)
Flavorings
- 1 clove garlic, sliced
- 1 sprig fresh thyme
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Accompaniment
- Toasted crostini
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius) to prepare for baking the cheese.
- Prepare Cheese: Unwrap the Camembert, discarding the plastic wrap, and place the cheese back into its wooden box. Score the top of the cheese in a crosshatch pattern to allow flavors to penetrate.
- Add Flavorings: Insert slices of garlic into the scored cuts of the cheese and sprinkle fresh thyme over the top. Drizzle with olive oil to enhance richness and aroma.
- Bake Cheese: Place the wooden box with the prepared cheese on a baking sheet to catch drips, then bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes until the cheese is soft and melty inside.
- Rest and Serve: Remove the baked camembert from the oven and let it set for 2–3 minutes. Serve warm with toasted crostini for dipping and spreading.
Notes
- Brie cheese is a great alternative if you cannot find Camembert.
- Make sure the box is oven-safe before placing in the oven; otherwise, transfer the cheese to a small ovenproof dish.
- For extra flavor, add a drizzle of honey or sprinkle red pepper flakes before baking.
